A Peaceful Disturbance

It's the rainy season, and the rain and cold Baguio breeze had been keeping me under my sweater and my blanket all week. During this time of the year, the bed becomes the strongest magnet in the whole universe. Oh yeah, and for others, the fridge. Today, the morning rain and my rumbling tummy woke me up early. Perfect morning to have a nice hot cup of coffee and read something good. So I jumped on the couch, cup on my hand, book on my lap. Aaah, what a comfort...

But it wasn't relaxing at all. I ended up being disturbed. But you know what, it was a good, peaceful disturbance, a comforting discomfort. I was reminded of what I was made for, what my life is all about - to worship. To worship God with all my being, in my thoughts and words, actions and reactions, relationships, dreams - in everything. Many times, our life's purpose gets clouded by the beautiful-but-not-really-beautiful things that this life offers. They're like powerful magnets, pulling us away from God and sucking all our desire for Him. Worshiping God becomes so uninviting, like a cold cup of coffee on a rainy and cold morning. Worshiping becomes "it's all about me" instead of "it's all about God." Worshiping becomes a Sunday-only activity instead of a 24/7 lifestyle. Worship becomes so focused on the music, the lights, the new curtains, and so on rather than being focused on Christ.

As I felt the coffee making my body warm, I felt God's love and words making the whole of me warmer. Aaah, what a comfort...

There is Beauty in Silence

This is something I've written four years ago. In my walks and talks with other people, I've observed that many people struggle in this area: listening. Often, people forget to push the pause button and tend to just react impulsively. We choose not to see and appreciate the ravishing beauty of silence. Now, four years later, humanity is still struggling. And will keep struggling. But I believe things can still get better. We can still be better...

To answer before listening - that is folly and shame.
Proverbs 18:13
-Solomon

Ever paused for just a minute to listen to that rugged-looking man playing a tune on his vintage-looking guitar in the midst of a busy hour along the road, and if you're in Baguio, specifically along the famous Session Road? When was the last time you intently listened to a song, trying to understand the message and the emotions of the songwriter? Do you remember the last time having a one-way conversation with a friend, him or her doing all the talking and crying or complaining and you, patiently zipping your mouth, acting as Spongebob, absorbing everything without judging, criticizing, butting in or inserting your own similar stories or thoughts?

Pen, Paper and Music by Divino Rivera

So my husband is into music, songwriting, and poetry. He keeps his creations in his blog titled Pen, Paper and Music. Check it out HERE.

This is one of my favorites. Well, according to him, he wrote it for me. So that explains why.
Frozen in Time (Young Again)
-Divino Rivera

Can’t remember my age now
Unaware of the date now
‘Cause I’ve ceased counting
As history is repeating

Frozen in time, we are young again
And I lean locked up wallowing in your arms
Trapped in this moment called embrace
And we are left behind in this human race

Innocent again, we are young again
We are bold again, we’ll stop trains
To choose to settle in the middle of a riddle
And write poetry underneath the tree

When every heart longs to belong
And every heart longs for a home
When your heart aches to own
Put your arms around me solely

THE HUG POEM (no safest place but in the arms of God) by Bradley Hathaway

Got this book from a small bookstore years ago. It was a collection of  poems and this one's my favorite. Felt every single emotion contained in this poem. Had those moments, too. Moments when you feel your heart's so numb because of too much hurt, and all you long for is God's embrace, God's bear hug!

It's kinda long, but worth reading till the very last word.

------------------

I read about how You TOUCHED them, and they were HEALED
Or even if someone just touched Your cloak
they were FOREVER changed.
You let a broken woman bathe you feet in her tears
And You WASHED Your bestfriend's feet.

I'm just wondering, though,
Did You ever just HUG people?
i know it's a silly question and all i'm sure You would have
(why wouldn't you have?)

But it's one of those things that was never mentioned
and it got me thinking about it.

And how whenever there was a TOUCH from You
Sins were FORGIVEN and sickness fell.
I think i'm caught up with my sins
and last time i checked all my body parts are working
Nothing special here...

i'm just a kid with a HEAVY heart
these passing sunrises and sunsets.

i don't think our encounter would have ended up in Your Gospels
or anything...
because ALL i really NEED is a hug
that's OK for me to imagine, right???
that's not conflicting with any sort of theology, is it???
